Volunteers for Kettles

More than ever, we are counting on volunteers to help us raise the funds needed to support our work in Washoe County.  While we are happy to give a person a job, not having the extra expense allows us to put more of our kettle income directly to those needing assistance.

Volunteers come from all walks of life. They are individuals. They are families, They are groups. They are businesses.  All kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds... and we are grateful for every one.

For their safety, we ask that volunteers under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult. Once you sign up our Volunteer Coordinator will be notified and you will be contacted prior to your volunteer shift.  He or she will advise you on all requirements for bell ringing.

Paid Ringers for Kettles

Every year The Salvation Army across the United States hires seasonal staff to help us raise funds.  The people we hire are often looking for extra money for Christmas or maybe, more seriously, some extra income to help pay their bills.  

We hire throughout the bell ringing season.  Here's what you need to know about being hired:

  1. Hiring is seasonal. No one will start before November 23rd(Subject to Change), nor work past December 24th.
  2. A background check and I-9 verification are required.
  3. A quick mandatory orientation.
  4. Workers must meet a minimum standard for hygiene and must supply their own clothing appropriate to the weather.
  5. No worker is guaranteed a particular number of hours.  Part-time and Full-time hours are available and schedules are somewhat flexible.

  • You must bring identification as well as documentation showing you are permitted to work in the United States.

Counter Kettles

We are looking for local businesses to help us out this Christmas by being a Counter Kettle location. All you have to do is say yes to being a location and we do the rest. We will provide you with a Counter Kettle that you put out on your front counter for your customers or even a backroom for your employees to be able to donate to us. We will also do the pickups once your customers and/or employees stuff it full of donations. If you are interested then email us at darren.trimmer@usw.salvationarmy.org.
